
Rabbi Yossi Vakrat heads Achdut Yisrael, a full time program of classes and minyanim for Hebrew speakers at Ariel. The community has over 150 families, and throughout the week there is a full range of classes for a variety of ages, and many activities for children. In addition, a kindergarten was established last year with the aim of introducing children to Jewish education from a young age.
Rabbi Yossi was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel. He studied in Yeshiva Beit Matityahu and in two Kollels: one headed by Rabbi Nebenzal - the Chief Rabbi of the Old City and the other, Aish HaTorah. He was involved in outreach activities at that time as well. He graduated from the Diaspora rabbinic training program Ner LeElef and took education courses at the Michlala College in Jerusalem receiving a dual degree from Rav Simcha Cohen. He is mohel and a scribe. He presents a deep understanding of many aspects of Jewish life in the Hebrew language.
Rabbi Vakrat came to Atlanta under the auspices of the Atlanta Scholars Kollel. Rabbi Vakrat is a founder of Mekusharim, a network of centers doing outreach to Israelis in North America. He and his wife Malka have three children.
